A new 3 bedroom dwelling designed for a retired family. The walls are made of Cedar and Board and batten over a rigid air barrier, the roof is made of Metal craft Rib profile over timber trusses, and the floor is made of white gum over plywood on a timber pole subfloor.
Tasked with crafting a residence tailored for a couple with thoughtful provisions for visiting family and friends, our design initiative unfolded on a site characterized by a steep slope and breathtaking sea and coastal vistas to the north. The canvas we inherited featured a pre-cut building platform with a timber pile in-ground retaining wall.
In response to the unique topography and client needs, we conceived a distinctive layout, dividing the structure into two distinct sections. The left side took center stage as the primary residence, housing a master bedroom, ensuite, walk-in robe, and a sheltered outdoor area. Serving as the heart of the home, the central hub embraced a spacious kitchen and dining area, offering both functionality and protection from the elements. The opposite end of the residence was dedicated to two bedrooms, each blessed with panoramic sea and coastal views to the north, accompanied by a strategically placed bathroom.
Elevating the aesthetic appeal, the exterior showcased a combination of vertical cedar and plywood board and batten, meticulously layered over a robust air barrier. The end result is a new 165m2 home that not only harmonizes with the natural contours of the site but also caters to the diverse needs of its occupants with a thoughtful and elegant design.
